Oct 22, 2009
DETROIT, MI – Clark Hill PLC family law attorney Randi Glanz recently appeared on WXYZ/Channel 7 to discuss the impact of gastrointestinal illness on children and promote “Camp Oasis,” an overnight camp devoted exclusively to children who suffer from Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, both life-altering intestinal diseases. With the joint effort of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, Glanz and her family helped to form the camp in 2001, through their family foundation, the Michael Yendick Foundation for Children. The clip aired on “Peter’s Principles” on Friday, October 16. “I am pleased to have the opportunity to spread the word about Camp Oasis, and awareness of these diseases. Camp Oasis is a wonderful program which provides children living with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative Colitis the opportunity to do things they never thought possible—and to learn that they are not alone. Without round-the-clock medical supervision, many of these kids cannot participate in activities healthy children take for granted, such as spending a night away from home or learning to swim. We recently celebrated our 8th year of camp, which was a resounding success,” Glanz said. “This has been a wonderful program, and we are going to continue our promise to take care of children through the Michael Yendick Foundation. We sincerely appreciate WXYZ giving us the opportunity to showcase our programs.” Camp Oasis is a camp which provides the opportunity for children with stable Crohn’s or Colitis to experience a summer camp is a safe environment. Medical staff are on site to provide care and support, and ensure that each camper is following their medical regimen. The program is intended to give children a chance to see that they are not alone in their disease, and gain confidence and create lifelong friendships. “The most rewarding part of this work is the feedback we receive at the end of each camp,” Glanz said. “The children are so happy – and it makes this so worthwhile. Most people do not realize how debilitating and isolating a disease like this can be – but with a place like Camp Oasis, these children are just like every other child.” In addition to her role on the board of directors of the Michael Yendick Foundation for Children, Glanz serves on the board of directors of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, Michigan Chapter, and has been actively involved with the foundation since 2001. Glanz has been heavily involved in the community, particularly children’s organizations, including Orchard’s Children Services, Child Abuse and Neglect Counsel, Gleaner’s Community Food Bank, St. Jude’s Hospital, American Cancer Society, Children’s Leukemia Foundation, and the Walled Lake School District. She is also an active member of the Michigan State Law School Mentor Program assisting young people in their desire to pursue a career in Family Law. Professionally, Glanz is a family law attorney with Clark Hill PLC in Birmingham. She focuses her practice on divorce, child custody and parenting arrangements, child support and spousal support, pre and post nuptial agreements and guardian ad litem matters. As a family law attorney, she is devoted to working with families and helping them through the difficult process of a divorce. More information on Camp Oasis can be found at http://www.yendick.org.
