Clark Hill Attorneys Timothy Koltun and Joseph Kopietz Earn Exclusive LEED Accreditation

The law firm of Clark Hill announced today attorneys Timothy Koltun and Joseph Kopietz have earned the credential of LEED Accredited Professional from the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI).

According to the GBCI website, Koltun and Kopietz are now two of only eight attorneys in Michigan and 194 attorneys nationwide to earn LEED AP certification.


The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System™ is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. Certification as a LEED Accredited Professional (AP) distinguishes professionals who have demonstrated a thorough understanding of green building practices and principles and the LEED Rating System.


Timothy Koltun is a member in the firm’s Detroit office, where he focuses his practice almost entirely on real estate transactional matters.


He has extensive experience in the sale, acquisition, development and leasing of residential, retail, office, industrial and hotel projects. Koltun has represented clients in complex sale/leaseback transactions involving commercial properties located in several states, and projects involving the utilization of tax credits and public and quasi-public funding. He has also represented institutional lenders as well as commercial borrowers in connection with construction and permanent financing, including securitized loans, and workouts, restructuring and enforcement of troubled loans.


Koltun has significant experience in forming limited liability companies and drafting and negotiating operating agreements for real estate projects. He has substantial expertise in the negotiation and documentation of design and construction related contracts, both from the contractor’s and owner’s standpoint. Koltun has represented numerous clients with respect to attached and site condominium projects as well as traditional platted projects.


Joseph Kopietz is a Senior Attorney with the Real Estate Services Group of Clark Hill’s Detroit office. He focuses his practice in the area of affordable and multifamily housing, representing for-profit developers and not-for-profit organizations in all stages of acquisition, development, construction/rehabilitation, operation, and disposition of market-rate and affordable housing developments. Kopietz is also experienced in choice of entity planning, formation and maintenance, and incorporation and qualification of tax exempt organizations. He also has experience advising small and mid-size businesses on Federal, state and local tax issues.
