PHOENIX, AZ – Clark Hill Attorney P. Douglas Folk will be presenting at the American Council of Engineering Company’s (ACEC) 2014 Annual Convention and Legislative Summit at the Grand Hyatt in Washington, DC.

Folk will address the National Association of Engineering Council Executives (NAECE) at 3:30 pm EDT on Monday, April 28, in a talk entitled “Indemnification, Certificates of Merit, and Other Hot Legal Issues – State Legislative Approaches.” The members of NAECE are the Executive Directors of 51 US member organizations affiliated with ACEC National, as well as the Executive Directors of several related international organizations. Folk was invited to make this presentation in recognition of his ongoing service on the Legal Counsel Forum and Risk Management Committee of ACEC.

This talk will feature Folk’s government relations work since 1997 in supporting the legislative initiatives of ACEC of Arizona, and an overview of new legislation enacted elsewhere in the US through the efforts of ACEC member organizations. He will discuss the challenges associated with mobilizing funding and support for government relations and lobbying efforts, and the process of guiding a bill through the legislative process. Folk will provide several examples of our success in obtaining passage of laws involving the statute of repose, certificate of merit, prompt pay, statutory immunity, peer review privilege, and indemnification. Folk will provide guidance for state member organizations and association executives for undertaking legislative initiatives in their own jurisdictions.
