Clark Hill Attorney Kristin B. Bellar Appointed to Ingham County Economic Development Corporation’s Board of Directors
The Ingham County EDC provides economic development services to businesses and communities, and acts a liaison to other federal, state, and regional agencies that offer related services.
Kristin Beals Bellar is an associate with the Litigation Practice Group, and is adjunct to the Education & Municipal Group, in Clark Hill's Lansing office. She focuses her practice on commercial litigation and environmental law for both public and private entities.
Kristin has litigation experience in a broad range of areas including environmental liability, municipal pension plan investments and liabilities, class action defense, contractual disputes, business torts, landlord/tenant and real property disputes, negotiable instruments and Uniform Commercial Code matters.
With respect to Kristin's environmental practice, she deals regularly with federal, state and local agencies regarding environmental compliance and permitting issues, and has successfully litigated environmental claims for both plaintiffs and defendants in federal and state court.
Kristin regularly assists municipal clients with environmental issues in land transactions, service/goods contracts and the establishment and maintenance of county drains. She also regularly acts as environmental counsel in complex land transactions, including the sale and redevelopment of contaminated properties.
Acting as amicus counsel for trade associations since 2006, Kristin has filed amicus curiae briefs in the Michigan Supreme Court on the doctrine of standing, business and property taxation, the propriety of certification of class actions in mass-tort cases, tort reform and damage caps, and environmental issues such as water use and the interpretation of the Michigan Environmental Protection Act.
Kristin is a founding member of the iGreenLaw practice group at Clark Hill, and regularly contributes to Clark Hill's iGreenLaw blog and has published several articles regarding the impact of climate change initiatives on business.
Originally from the metropolitan Detroit area, Kristin graduated with a B.A in Social Policy from the James Madison College at Michigan State University. Kristin earned her JD, magna cum laude, from Michigan State University College of Law. She now resides in East Lansing with her husband, James. Kristin is committed to and involved in the greater Lansing community, including acting as an appointed member of the City of East Lansing Commission on the Environment and giving her time to local non-profits and volunteer associations.
