GRAND RAPIDS - Clark Hill Attorney Barbara A. Ruga Presents “A New Age for Teacher and Administrative Evaluations” for Michigan Negotiators Association’s 2011 Mini Conference. The mini conferences will take place on January 24 in Kent County, January 25 in Ingham County and January 31 in Oakland County. This is a must workshop for board members, superintendents, chief negotiators, personnel officers, principals, and supervisors who are concerned about how to handle evaluation of employees. This presentation will review how the laws affect the on the ground evaluation procedures now in place and what are some of the bargaining issues/goals/proposals/pitfalls. Ruga is a resident in Clark Hill’s Grand Rapids office, where she is a member of the Education and Municipal Practice Group as well as the Labor & Employment Law Practice Group. For more than 30 years, she has been advising and counseling public school districts and businesses on a wide variety of labor law and employment issues. Ruga has extensive experience negotiating teacher contracts in a context of scarce resources. She has also handled numerous unfair labor practice charges, fact-findings and related employment litigation. Ruga advocates for prevention through education, and to that end, specializes in employee training programs.

She is a frequent lecturer on bargaining topics, and is also the 2007 recipient of the prestigious Harlow Claggett Award from the MNA. The Harlow Claggett award is reserved for those individuals who have made a major contribution to the MNA and labor relations in the State of Michigan.
