Steven J. Kustra
Steven J. Kustra has a robust federal and state litigation practice, with experience in handling a wide variety of civil and criminal cases. An associate in Clark Hill’s Litigation Practice Group, Steven’s civil experience includes: contract disputes, automobile/transportation warranty cases, torts, structured settlement transfers, child custody, and collection matters, among others. Steven is a part of Clark Hill’s White Collar Criminal Defense Group and has represented both white collar and blue collar clients in a wide range of criminal matters including: RICO violations, healthcare fraud, CSC cases, official misconduct, as well as minor crimes. Steven has participated in many high level litigation cases and his skills have also been used to conduct internal investigations for public and private organizations.
Steven has been tapped by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan for his knowledge of electronic discovery and litigation technology, which led to his appointment to assist defense counsel in managing extensive amounts of discovery (paper and electronic), and a variety of technology in the court room during a high level RICO trial.
In addition to his U.S. practice, Steven is licensed to practice in the province of Ontario Canada. Steven’s specialized understanding of cross-border issues allows him to represent and advise clients with a unique and informed perspective on the laws of both the United States and Canada.
Steven is adjunct to Clark Hill’s Environment, Energy and Natural Resources Practice Group and the Government and Public Affairs Practice Group, working closely with other attorneys in these groups to provide clients with both litigation and transactional expertise in related matters.
Prior to joining Clark Hill, Steven attended the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, and University of Windsor Faculty of Law, as an enrollee in the Canadian/American Dual J.D. program. Steven graduated with both a Canadian and American Law Degree. While in law school, Steven worked as a Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable Edward A. Servitto, Judge of Macomb County Circuit Court, and in the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law Veterans’ Law Clinic.
Steven completed his undergraduate studies summa cum laude at the University of Detroit Mercy, with a double major in Political Science and Philosophy. During his undergraduate studies, Steven interned for the United States Department of Defense in the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Policy, and for the Macomb County Circuit Court.
Steven honorably served in the United States Army as a sergeant in the Military Police Corps. During his service, Steven was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal. As a proud veteran, Steven is dedicated to supporting veterans’ causes and promoting public awareness of issues affecting America’s veterans.
