John E. Berg
John E. Berg is a member of Clark Hill's Litigation Practice Group. John has more than 20 years of experience in matters dealing with insurance, commercial/construction and automotive/toxic tort litigation.
Insurance: John has substantial experience representing clients confronting commercial insurance coverage disputes, including matters relating to general liability, property and casualty, products liability, toxic tort and business tort issues. He is also called upon frequently to assist clients in evaluating coverage claims for settlement purposes.
Commercial/construction: John has extensive trial experience in the commercial and construction-related areas. He has represented owners, general contractors and design professionals in litigation and in alternative dispute resolution forums in numerous states and federal courts around the country. His experience includes litigation related to roofing systems, public mass transportation, waste water treatment facilities, elevated light rail mass transportation, automobile parts and assembly plants, high-rise office buildings, hospitals, research facilities, warehouses, robotics systems, hotels, apartment and condominium complexes, underground installations, parking structures, and commercial retail developments.
Automotive/toxic tort: John has extensive automotive litigation experience and currently serves as national coordinating counsel for a global automobile manufacturer faced with asbestos lawsuits. In that capacity, John supervises trial counsel to ensure that matters with large verdict potential are fully and adequately prepared for trial. Additionally, he is responsible to assist in the formulation and execution of strategic initiatives.
Professional/civic activities: John has been a member of numerous professional and civic boards and committees including the Michigan Bar Association’s Character and Fitness Committee, the Detroit Area YMCA Legacy Committee (current), Henry Ford Hospital’s Heart and Vascular Institute Board of Advisors (current), Detroit Athletic Committee Board of Directors and the Grosse Pointe Farms Foundation (current). He has also served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Detroit-Mercy Law School. John also lectures on litigation-related matters to a broad variety of audiences and associations.
