Chief Marketing Officer

Jim serves as Clark Hill's Chief Marketing Officer. For nearly 25 years, Jim has participated in every aspect of the legal industry. After practicing business law for 10 years, he started the Law Firm Development Group, where he worked with hundreds of law firms as a consultant and trainer, developing sales, marketing and management strategies designed to change the way lawyers and clients work together. He has interviewed hundreds of law firm clients, and spoken at dozens of retreats and conferences. He speaks regularly on the importance of innovation for law firms, and is passionate about client service excellence. Jim has been a consultant to several in-house law departments, and served as the Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer for three AmLaw100 firms. His teams at two of these firms were ranked in the top five of law firm marketing departments by Marketing the Law Firm, a NLJ publication.

He was General Counsel and VP of Marketing for Senior Tour Players, Inc., which represented professional golfers in connection with appearances, endorsements, and golf course design. He played a key role in establishing the Sam Snead Golf Course Design Company, and in arranging for Snead, Gene Sarazen and Kathy Whitworth to design The Legends Course at Chateau Elan in Braselton, Georgia. Jim also served as the Senior Vice President of Sponsorship and Affiliate Relations for Major League Baseball Advanced Media, Inc. (MLB.com) in its formative years.

He is the author of The Essential Little Book of Great Lawyering, which has been sold to over 12,000 lawyers. Jim is the co-editor and contributing author to the American Bar Association book: The Lawyer’s Guide to Marketing Your Practice, Second Edition. Jim recently completed a new book, The Essential Little Book of Service Excellence, which teaches everyone at a company (in any industry) how to enhance their personal and professional brand through extraordinary service.

In 2010 Jim was inducted into the Legal Marketing Association Hall of Fame. He was inducted into The College of Law Practice Management in October 2017. Jim is a member of the American Bar Association (Law Practice Management Section) and the Legal Marketing Association.
