Stephanie J. CliffordMember Areas of Practice Bar Admissions Education Memberships Stephanie J. Clifford is a member in Clark Hill’s Labor and Employment Practice Group. Ms. Clifford’s practice focuses on employment litigation involving state and federal claims of harassment, retaliation, sex, race, national origin, religious and disability discrimination, sales representative commission claims, as well as ERISA and Family and Medical Leave Act claims. She has defended employers before both state and federal agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, and the U.S. Department of Labor Wage-Hour Division. Ms. Clifford also advises employers of FMLA compliance issues, wage-hour issues, disability accommodation requirements, employee confidentiality and non-competition issues and other general employment law matters. She has experience negotiating and drafting employee severance agreements. Ms. Clifford has helped a number of employers draft and revise employment policies and handbooks. She has also performed investigations of employee harassment complaints, as well as other employee misconduct. Ms. Clifford has lectured on a variety of employment law topics including: the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, employer recordkeeping and personnel files, sexual harassment and discrimination law, conducting employee background checks, violence in the workplace, and employee privacy issues. Ms. Clifford is member of the Board of Directors of the Accounting Aid Society, a non-profit organization that provides tax assistance and promotes the economic self-sufficiency of low-income families, seniors and others in need. She is also a Founding Board Member of The Uptown Group (TUG), which is a collection of young professionals dedicated to making a difference in Southeastern Michigan through fun and innovative social events, cultural programs and community outreach on behalf of The Community House. Ms. Clifford is also a member of the Bay View Association and Hope Lutheran Church. While at the University of Michigan Law School, Ms. Clifford was the administrative manager of the Journal of Gender and Law. |
