Clark Hill Attorneys Jennifer Buckley and Ed Hammond to Present Labor and Employment Breakfast Seminar June 20 in TroyMay 30, 2007- BIRMINGHAM, MI – Clark Hill attorneys Jennifer Buckley and Ed Hammond will present “Final Regulations Governing Nonqualified Deferred Compensation,” on Wednesday, June 20 at the MSU Management Education Center in Troy, Michigan. Buckley and Hammond will discuss the Internal Revenue Code Section 409A Final Regulations, which were issued on April 10. These regulations affect severance arrangements and buy-outs that are becoming increasingly common. The presentation will include examples of the types of arrangements which are specifically excluded, and other arrangements that may be affected by these rules. They will also examine compliance, and penalties for noncompliance. This seminar is intended to provide employers with a brief overview of creating severance arrangements and employee buy-outs, and how these new rules can affect their plans. The cost to attend the seminar is $40 per person and includes a continental breakfast and program materials. Buckley defends employers in state and federal court actions against sex, race, age, disability discrimination claims, ERISA and FMLA claims, as well as wrongful discharge and related tort claims. She is also experienced in defending actions brought under Michigan's Sales Representative Commissions Act and pursuing and defending claims pertaining to restrictive covenants. She has represented employers in administrative hearings before the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Michigan Employment Security Commission and the Michigan Department of Labor. Ed Hammond is a member in the firm’s Birmingham office, where he focuses his practice on employee benefits and executive compensation. Hammond is a member of the Oakland County and American Bar Associations (taxation and business law sections), and the State Bar of Michigan (taxation section). His practice includes drafting, implementing, analyzing and terminating defined benefit pension plans and defined contribution, profit sharing and 401(k) plans, as well as Section 403(b) plans (tax sheltered annuities). Hammond also develops, designs, and implements non-qualified deferred compensation plans, 457 plans, stock option plans and other incentive plans. Hammond earned his B.A. from the University of Virginia, and his J.D. from Tulane University School of Law. |
