IMMIGRATION LAW ALERT
Late on Friday January 30th, the US
Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) put on hold the release
of the new I-9 form. As we reported in our previous Immigration
Update, the new I-9 form was scheduled to be required of all new
hires on or after February 2, 2009. However, after significant
pressure from commentators to the proposed regulation, USCIS
announced that the new I-9 form is on hold until April 3, 2009.
A copy of the USCIS press release is on
their website. Employers must continue to use the previous
I-9 form until this new Regulation goes into effect.
