Senate to Turn Its Attention to Jobs Bill After Health Care Reform

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has stated that he intends to pass a jobs bill as soon as the Senate finishes its work on health care reform, which could happen by the end of this month.

The Democratic Leadership has been soliciting job creation provisions from a majority of Democratic Senators since Fall 2009.  Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) and retiring Senator Byron Dorgan (D-ND) are in charge of narrowing the list of 121 provisions, which propose to create jobs in a number of areas such as small business, infrastructure, alternative energy and the public sector.

No decisions have been made regarding Senate procedure, but there is talk that the Senate bill may be added as a substitute amendment to a jobs bill the House passed in December, which would save time by bypassing the Committee process.
