President Obama's FY11 Budget Priorities

 

On Monday, February 1, President Obama introduced his Fiscal Year 2011 (FY11) Budget, which recommends to Congress funding levels for all federal government departments, agencies and programs from October 1, 2010 through September 30, 2011.  One of the main responsibilities of Congress is to appropriate funds for the federal government's operation.  Congress has begun reviewing the President's budget and will continue to hold hearings about the Administration's goals and justifications for its recommendations over the course of the next three months while Congress drafts its FY11 appropriations bills.
 
Some Key Investments:
 
Tax cuts for 110 million American families, including:

  • Arizona - 2.2 million families
  • Illinois - 4.8 million families
  • Michigan - 3.7 million families

 Department of Education - $49.7 billion for schools, including:

  • Arizona - $1 billion
  • Illinois - $2.1 billion
  • Michigan - $1.8 billion

 Pell Grant Funding to help families pay for college:

  • Arizona - $2 billion
  • Illinois - $1.4 billion
  • Michigan - $1.2 billion

 Department of Transportation - $78.8 billion, including:
(to fix and expand roads and highways, modernize airports and expand water and sewer infrastructure)

  • Arizona - $994 million
  • Illinois - $2.5 billion
  • Michigan - $1.5 billion

Housing Assistance Programs - $19.6 billion, including:

  • Arizona - $236.8 million
  • Illinois - $1.4 billion
  • Michigan - $501.6 million
